Ordinary Time

This season, the longest in the church year, begins following the Day of Pentecost and continues through the feast of the Reign of Christ, which falls on November 21 this year. “Ordinary” time does not suggest a boring or uneventful period, but derives from the word ordinal which means counted time. Ordinary Time invites us to move into a mode that is shaped by something other than the “high seasons” which the first half of the liturgical year offers us. During this time, we have the opportunity to be transformed by the dynamic mystery of God’s love in our everyday lives.
