WASHINGTON, D.C.As a symbolic call for action on climate change, Washington National Cathedral is turning off its lights on Saturday evening, March 28.
The Cathedral is among many area landmarks participating in World Wildlife Funds Earth Hour, a global environmental awareness event involving more than 1,500 cities and millions of people.
On the initiative and stewardship of the earth, Cathedral Dean Samuel T. Lloyd III commented, As a community of faith, we recognize our planet as a sacred gift from God to enjoy, protect, and ultimately, pass on to the generations that follow.
Beginning at 8:30 pm, the Cathedral will turn off all non-essential lighting along with a wide array of organizations in the Washington metro area. For more information on the project, please visit www.EarthHourUS.org.
