DOCC Session

As of January 13, the course is full.

The Cathedral offers various courses and programs to help us to grow as Christians. At the center of Congregation Christian Formation is the 16-week course called Disciples of Christ in Community or “DOCC” for short. DOCC is a step-by-step journey into the heart and soul of Christianity. One word emerges repeatedly when you ask past DOCC participants to explain the impact of the journey. That word is “transformational.”

The next DOCC course begins on Tuesday, January 19 and runs through May 4. This weekly 7-9 pm commitment also includes one 8:30 am–3 pm Saturday session on February 20. Each Tuesday night session consists of a presentation for approximately 45 minutes in Perry Auditorium, followed by an hour-long conversation in a small group that will stay together for the entire course. Through lectures primarily by Dean Lloyd and also by Program Director Deryl Davis, followed by small group discussions, participants will explore the core of Christian faith and what it means to live that faith thoughtfully and generously.

What does it mean to “hear” God’s call? Do we really need a savior? What difference can Christ really make in our lives? Those are some of the questions we will be addressing.

One of the goals of DOCC is to allow participants to experience for themselves something of the power of Christian faith and Christian community as experienced in the early church. Because of that, attendance at each session is vital. If you believe that you will have to miss more than two or three sessions, we encourage you to wait and take the course in another year.

You will be able to sign up for an optional meal which will be served before each session. The registration fee for the program is $100, which covers the cost of materials, and the meal for the Saturday session on February 6.

If you have any questions, please contact Deryl Davis at (202) 537-6382 or ddavis@cathedral.org.
