Promoting a Just Peace in the Holy Land
The Cathedral's Palestine Israel Advocacy Group (PIAG) hosts this five-session class entitled Promoting a Just Peace in the Holy Land. Developed by the Companion Diocese Committee for Jerusalem, the class is based on Steadfast Hope: the Palestinian Quest for a Just Peace, a 50–page booklet and DVD. Written in accessible language, the booklet challenges common myths and misconceptions about the origins of the Israeli–Palestinian situation. It examines conflicting narratives, Christian attitudes, and the role played by Americans. The documentary excerpts on the DVD reveal the reality experienced “on the ground” and introduce viewers to people working across religious and political boundaries for peace. The class will help participants consider steps that they and their churches can take to promote a just and lasting peace for both the Palestinians and Israelis. Discussions will be led by members of the Palestine Israel Advocacy Group.
Missioner Patty Johnson and PIAG coordinator Grace Said will facilitate the course.
Copies of Steadfast Hope will be made available for $5 purchase at the first class. Participants may also borrow the booklet.
This course will meet in the Cathedral library; space is limited to 24 participants; there is no fee for this course.
