Earth’s Crammed with Heaven
This pilgrimage is full.
Earth’s crammed with heaven, And every common bush afire with God; But only he who sees, takes off his shoes — The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries. —Elizabeth Barrett Browning
In the Celtic world, thin places are landscapes where pilgrims have prayed for centuries; sacred ground where the veil between heaven and earth, the outward and the inward, ourselves and the Holy One, is said to be particularly thin. But thin places don't have to be distant shores and holy moments may be experienced anytime if our eyes are open. Sometimes breaking with our ordinary routine, setting aside time for prayer and reflection helps us to see these sacred moments more clearly.
Join members of your Diocesan community and the Cathedral Center for Prayer and Pilgrimage for an afternoon led by Tiffany Montavon at Washington National Cathedral as we discover the holy in the world around us. Periods of walking and wondering, silence and sharing, community and contemplation invite us to consider the sacred ground on which we tread each day.
This pilgrimage is now full. To find out about future pilgrimages, contact pilgrimages@cathedral.org.
